What is pop music like today?

Pop music is the genre of popular music that makes the most hits. A hit is a song that sells lots of copies, the latest hits are listed every week on the charts such as iTunes, Spotify and the Radio. Artists that have a hit song almost always have something called the pop-music formula. This means the song has a good rhythm, a catchy melody, and are easy to remember and sing along to. They usually have a chorus that's repeated several times and two or more verses. Most pop songs are between two and five minutes long. Most pop songs are about the artists experiences for example heart break and love sometimes even about some times about a time they felt Happy and joy . Not all Singles and albums are made by pop artists people so produce some in genres such as country, hip hop and rap also make hot albums and singles.

Pop Jazz and Smooth Jazz:Today, jazz is not so popular, so jazz and pop have drifted apart. But there is still the genre of smooth jazz, which takes musical ideas from pop and plays them using jazz instruments.

Pop Rock: Today pop rock remains a highly successful genre, however it has moved off the radio and into more festivals and live venues. Pop Rock artists that are known for this type of music

Industry Roles Of A Music Performer

A music performer reads, remembers and perform music to a live audiences or in a studio setting. Music performers also collaborate with other performing artist and also work alongside music producers.

Some responsibilities of a performer:

Learning, remembering, recording, rehearsing, making and performing songs.
Collaborating with managers, producers and other musicians.
Singing exercises to warm up vocals before gigs and rehearsals, vocal and instrument training.
Learning dance routines, acting, as well as new genres of music.
Attending photo shoots, promotional events, and being active on social media for fans and to promote yourself .
Showing up on time for recording sessions and gigs.

Structure For Each Song

Find that keeping a relatively easy and consistent song structure in my songs ,especially in pop songs its key to a successful hit, using a simple structure, however this might might be different for every genre. The main structure for pop music is , intro/verse , pre chorus, chorus, verse two, pre chorus, chorus. Bridge, chorus then outro.

I found this video useful to get some tips from how to better myself with writing lyrics for example how to write a melody as that is something i do struggle with when it come to writing i also find it hard to get started on lyrics but i have now learnt that just singing any words to a melody just so see what fits then write it down immediately. I learned that writing down words/lyrics onto paper is discipline that you need to have along with singing onto voice notes when you come across a melody.

Song Structure

There are six primary parts to song structure it can be used in any order

Intro: The beginning of any successful song it needs to draw the listener’s attention to make them continue to listen song intros are normally slower and lower in key to make it not so overwhelming you should leave the excitement too the chorus
The Verses: Any song needs to have at least two verses it gives a chance to start story telling. In most song the pre-chorus and the chorus genuinely use the same lyrics try to make the 1st and 2nd verse different its the only time you have to express any feelings
Pre-chorus: Its optional to have a pre-chorus its there to heighten the impact of the chorus, pre-chorus can somewhere where you can experiment with harmonies or break the pattern of the song.
The chorus: Is the biggest and the memorable part of the song its also the most powerful part of the song and gets repeated. this is also where the title of the song makes appearance. The chorus typically contains the hook of the song the main point of any song.
The bridge: This part of the song appears towards the end of the song, it stands out both musically and lyrically it brake down the repetition of the song its to show the listener that there is more to the song than repetition its also a chance to change the key of the song. The bridge also stands out from the versus because its telling a different part of the story using a different melody .
Outro: This is the part of the song that breaks down and slows down the song because it is coming to an end. Typically by achieved by doing the reverse of the intro by slowing the song down. The outro can sometimes be a repeat of the chorus or slightly different.
